Dr. Bi Qi

Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Bi received his M.S. from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1981 and Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University in 1986. After teaching at Utah State University as an assistant professor for one year, he joined Bell Laboratories in 1988 and became a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff in 1995. Two years later, he was promoted to Technical Manager. Dr. Bi is a recognized expert in wireless communications.

He received Awards of Excellence from the Advanced Technology Lab of AT&T in 1996 and 1997, and Bell Labs President’s Gold Awards in 2000 and 2002. Under his leadership, his team was recognized in innovations and was awarded the Bell Labs Innovation Team Award in 2003 by the Bell Labs Research. In 2004, he received the Speaker of the Year Award from the IEEE New Jersey Coast Section. Based on his pioneering contributions in wireless communications, he broke ground in 2002 to become the first Chinese from the People’s Republic of China to receive the prestigious Bell Laboratories Fellow Award,and became the 170th fellow in Bell Labs’ near one century glorious history. In 2005, he was recognized by the Chinese Institute of Engineers and was awarded the Asian American Engineer of the Year Award during Engineers Week in the United States. Dr. Bi is also dedicated to international and social activities. From 1998 to 1999, he served as the technical chair for the Wireless Mobile ATM Conference. From 1999 to 2000, he organized the first and the second CDMA conferences at Lucent Technologies.

From 2000 to 2002, he served as the technical chair for IEEE Globecom’s wireless program. In 2003, he served as the technical chair for the IEEE Wireless Communications and Network Conference. In 2005 and 2006, he serves as the chair and organizer for the Wireless and Optical Communications Conference.

Dr. Bi has published extensively in many technical journals and conferences and has served as editors in many technical publications. He was often invited as a keynote speaker in many international conferences. He filed more than 60 US patents and was granted 30 US patents and 40 European patents. He was also the New York chapter president of the Alumni Association of the Chiao Tung University from 2002 to 2006. He has been listed in Who’s Who since 2003.

Gabriel Brown

Mr. Shian-Jaw Tsai got his M.S. degree in Telecommunication Engineering from National Chiao-Tung University in 1985. Mr. Tsai started working in 1970 at Chunghwa Telecom, serving different positions in different fields such as assistance engineer, senior engineer, and deputy managing director of Engineering Department, etc. Mr. Tsai was promoted as the Managing Director of Engineering Department, Mobile Business Group, in 2006.

Mr. Tsai has 40 years of experience with a variety of technology applications, including Microwave System, Radio Paging System, Radio Transmission System, GMDSS, Mobile Communication System and Transport Network. In these years, Mr. Tsai has worked on cellular systems from lst, 2nd to 3rd generation of cellular systems and having good experiences in system planning, dimensioning, deployment and optimization.

Dr Henry Ye Hui

Dr. Henry Ye received his B.S. in Mathematics in 1990 from the University of Science and Technology of China. He received his M.S. degree in Mathematics in 1992 and Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1996, both from the University of Notre Dame, USA. He worked at the Arizona State University as a faculty associate between 1996 and 1997 before he joined Bell Labs of Lucent Technologies. During his 11 years experience at Lucent/Alcatel-Lucent, Dr. Ye had helped producing multiple successful 2G/3G base station modem chips as the chief architect at Lucent Technologies.

He was promoted to Distinguished Member of Technical Staff in 2000 and a Consulting Member of Technical Staff in 2006. He also received Bell Labs President Gold award and Bell Labs President Silver award in 2000 and 2002, respectively. Dr. Ye joined ASTRI in Feb. 2008 as a R&D Director to lead the Practical-MIMO team to conduct frontier R&D work on MIMO and OFDM systems.

Noboru SANO

Mr. Sano was awarded Maser Degree of Engineering and joined NTT in 1975. After joining NTT, Mr. Sano worked for network planning, network installation & investment planning, service development, business planning and marketing strategies.

In 1980’s, Mr. Sano was sent to China, to worked out telecommunication skill development program with Beijing Post & Telecommunication University for 2.5 years. In 1990’s, Mr. Sano was assigned as project manager of feasibility study for internet backbone network planning, optical submarine cable network planning, and provincial backbone network planning. In 2000, Mr. Sano was posted as the Head of NTT DoCoMo Beijing Representative Office. In 2010, Mr. Sano was posted as the senior adviser of NTT DoCoMo Beijing Representative Office. In 2009, Mr. Sano was appointed as the deputy Chairman of YRP R&D Promotion Committee and deputy Chairman of Japan China Mobile Business Promotion Committee.

Mr. Sano has been staying in China for more than 10 years.

Dan Bantukul

Dan Bantukul has more than 20 years of telecommunications experience and the vast majority of that time has been with Tekelec. Dan has held a variety of positions with Tekelec in hardware engineering, embedded system programming, product management and product marketing. In his current position as director of product marketing for Tekelec’s Signaling and Control product portfolio, Dan is responsible for the evangelism of Tekelec’s SIP Signaling Router (SSR) and for providing direction to the product roadmap based upon industry and customer requirements. Dan has extensive knowledge of SS7, SIP, IMS and Intelligent Network services in both fixed and mobile telecommunication networks and he has been awarded numerous patents in these areas. Dan graduated with a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University, works at Tekelec’s Morrisville, NC offices .

Before joining Tellabs Frank is director of MEN solution for Nortel China, leading Carrier Ethernet and 40G optical solution development and promotion. In prior to Nortel, Frank worked for Beijing Design Institute of China Ministry of Post&Telecom for Data network design, where participated the 1st national ATM/FR backbone network planning and design.

Mikko Hietanen

An expert in the telecommunications industry and IT sales, Mikko is a proven leader with strong customer focus and commercial acumen. He joined Nokia Siemens Networks in January 2010 from SAP where he headed sales for the company’s consumer industries in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Prior to this, Mikko was the Chief Executive Officer of Agillic, a leading software vendor for interactive marketing. His successful track record also includes a stint of seven years at Siebel Systems and Oracle Corporation, lastly as Head of Sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa for Siebel’s Communications, media and energy sectors.

Mikko started his career at Accenture in Finland where he worked as a management consultant contributing to various telecom projects in Finland and Italy for five years.

Born in 1968 Mikko holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Helsinki. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, good food and wines. Based in Farnborough, United Kingdom, Mikko is married and has 3 children.

Ronald Wright Raffensperger

Mr. Ronald Raffensperger is Director of Core Network Marketing for Huawei and is based in the company’s global headquarters in Shenzhen, China. He is responsible for the overall branding and communications strategies for the Core Network product line, including analyst relations and public relations activities.

Mr. Raffensperger has over 30 years of experience in product management and marketing in the telecommunications industry. Prior to his current role with Huawei, Mr. Raffensperger was Senior Vice President of Marketing for Sylantro Systems, a U.S.-based provider of advanced voice applications.

Mr. Raffensperger has held senior positions at Network Focus, Siemens, ROLM/IBM, Telebit Corporation and General Telephone. He was also Vice President of Marketing at Objectivity, a leading provider of object-oriented databases, and Vice President of Sales and Services at Upshot, the first web-based CRM application provider which was later acquired by Siebel.

Mr. Raffensperger holds a BSEE from Iowa State University and attended the MBA program at Santa Clara University.

Bernd Sperrle is Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell’s Chief Architecture Officer for LTE E2E Solutions.

Appointed to this role beginning of 2009, Bernd is in charge for defining TD-LTE and LTE FDD solutions from an end-to-end perspective, including radio access part, enhanced packet core, backhaul transmission and inter-working architectures with legacy 2G/3G systems.

Bernd is based in Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell’s headquarter in Shanghai.

Bernd has gained a very rich experience in the telecommunications space in the past 15 years in many fields, as GSM/W-CDMA/WiMAX/LTE radio access networks, microwave access networks, fiber-based transport & access systems as well as IP backhauling networks.

As a member of Alcatel and Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell since 1998, Bernd took several leadership positions in the company’s wireless divisions of Customer Care and Network Improvement, Network Design, Tendering, Product Management and Marketing.

Prior to this role Bernd was leading the Bosch Telecom Representative Office’s Technical Sales Department in the China Region, in charge for optical access & transport systems as well as microwave systems.

Bernd holds a Master degree in Telecommunications from the University of Stuttgart in Germany.

He is the chief architect of Cisco’s APAC SP team’s Architecture and Technology group with a focus on IP NGN and mobility infrastructure markets. Before joining the APAC SP team in late 2005, he functioned as a system architect in the routing product development group at Cisco HQ for 10 years. Prior to Cisco, he worked in the telecom industry for 10 years as a software architect/developer in the development of digital switching systems and optical access products. Michael has a MSCS degree and received 3 US patents.
